Reading Reflection

Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson

1.
What surprised me the most was Steve Jobs story and how he was raised without his adopted parents. Someone who grew up relatively poor was and is one of the richest men to ever grace this planet.
I admired his ability to get up when he was knocked down like rocky says, it's not about how hard your hit its how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward. Something I didn't really think was cool is that some of Steves early friends I felt were left out of the picture in his future endeavors. Yes, one of his biggest failures was getting kicked out his OWN company Apple after the board of directors bought him over.
2.
One thing Steve Jobs did was never limit himself he was learned new avenues in his field such as getting involved with Pixar for motion picture development.
3.
One part that was confusing to me was the whole idea of the shares and the stocks of the company, I don't get the legality of someone buying you out of YOUR business.
4.
How do you manage to tackle tasks when you have forces against you besides the tasks forces?
How do you see the world outside of your passion, does it affect your work ethic in the field?
5.
I think if Steve were to answer this question he would say it is doing what you love but also challenging yourself every day.

  1. Hi Matthew,
I agreed with many points that you made. One being that in his road to success, Jobs really showed no loyalty to anyone no matter what they did or how much they contributed. I get that you grow out of some people, but some of those people were extremely valuable to him and the company. Secondly, I also get confused on the whole getting bought out of your own company thing.

  2. Hey I too read this book for my reflection and found steve jobs to be very inspiring, I was adopted as well so to hear all that he accomplished with so little was amazing as you eluded to. Again great post and I love the thought of steve jobs replying to question 5 saying "challenging yourself very day".

  3. Hey Matt,

I read this same book. I'm guessing a lot of people did as well since I'm seeing it a lot in these discussions. I like how you mention off the bat about Steve being adopted, especially since this was always something that inherently bothered him. I really wonder how much of a factor that played in his overall determination and really seeing his vision carried out.
